We recently had a change in the pecking order of our hens. The number one hen, (Henny) was knocked off the top by (Speckels) and she didn't go into second place in order but was sent all the way to the bottom of the pecking order!
It was devistating for her and the only hen to molt this spring.
She hangs around the spruce trees by herself or with one other hen, and doesn't spend time with the rest of the flock.
We spend way too much time with our flock, but are aware of all the things that go on.
Just was hoping (Henny) will return to the top, any chances that will happen?

Pecking orders often change as chickens "dispute" the current order and shuffle around. Bottom chickens often "test the system". However, unless Henny suddenly asserts herself, she'll probably not be the number one coop queen for a while. That's just the way it works. Birds can be quite jealous creatures. :P

Poor Henny!! It is nice to know I am not the only one who worries about things like that. I think chickens have feelings too. In a weird chicken way!
Heidi. I think the only feelings a chicken has is "Hunger Pangs" .......... 8O

Thanks for the input, Henny is such a nice bird.
Just like in our lives the good don't always finish first.
It's still a wonderful flockof Light Brahmas!

Hey Bbuckbee,
I think we need to see a picture of Henny now. She might really be happier at the bottom, some folks just aren't cut out for managment.
I have one Light Brahma and I don't know yet if it's a boy or girl. I hope it's a girl.

Go figure.... The one that jumps on the water container and jumps off at un-expecting friends is a light Brahma.

I have 1 light Brahma too, Dinosaur, as she was the biggest chicken I had ever seen 3 1/2 yrs ago. Now, I have seen bigger ones, but her name stuck, and she is 2nd in command, behind the little blk or blue cochin, Diana. Who is the smallest, go figure?
It is fun to watch the pecking order between the lowest ones as well, they "try" to be nasty, but not as bad as the queens! LOL!!!
