I live just north of Houston, and want to own some chickens. I feed one that is in the neighborhood and enjoy her a lot; a RIR. She is molting right now and was so scared of us at first. Now she is real friendly and comes running when we go outside or call to her. I want chickens for laying, so I can provide us, our four children and families and husband's parents with eggs. How many do I need to have? There are about 21 in our family.
