Farmgirl. Here's a simple home-mixed feed recipe:

65% grains, including at least two of these: barley, corn, milo, oats, wheat.
7% alfalfa meal or ground hay.
5% meat scraps, fish meal, or soybean meal (if necessary, substitute cooked soybeans for soybean meal; never feed raw soybeans to chickens as they contain toxins that inhibit growth).
13% dried peas or additional soybean meal.
6% oyster shell or limestone.
3% bone meal
1% trace mineral salt (obtainable in bulk from many feed stores).
1/2 pint cod-liver oil per 100 pounds feed.

Naturally, with this feeding program you would want to provide your flock with grit. Fresh greens, table scraps, and milk products could also be fed as available. Hope this helps you some .....

Be careful with the fish. Your fowl might give up on the bugs and get fishing poles.
