Yeah, that' show I ended up with so many extras last year. Along with the 2 bantam replacements I was sent 15 roos for warmth. Don't worry Barb, I can assure you the extra roos taste just as good as any other when it comes right down to it. I wouldn't put them in the same brooder with the water lovers though. It'll be too wet and nasty in there for them, not to mention the size difference which is noticeable now, but will be a lot more so before you know it.

Awwww so cute, even your packing peanuts are little sweeties. At least these 12 little roos have a chance. It's horrible what they do to unwanted roos in the hatchery.:( I just read an article about what they do and it is so disturbing to me. Congrats on the new babies!!!!!!:)

They are all so cute. Pictures are kinda dark but they look like my Barred Rocks when I got them. Hatcheries mess up on sexing sometimes, maybe you'll get a couple pullets. Fingers crossed. Let me know how it goes with the Cayuga ducks, I have been thinking about getting some since last summer for my small pond and to be friends with my very lonely African Goose.

they coule be EITHER barred plymouth rocks or sex links - only the barring gene makes that particular spot which they use to determine gender so its got to be one of the 2.

Glad your ducklings and goslings made it to you safely.
I will be making a trip to the post office myself next week as I have some pullets (Delaware & New Hampshire) ordered. They ask if it was ok to add some roosters for warmth so I expect to get some in the box with the pullets.

OK am calmer now lol I have given all 12 of the chicks away to a nice man. He said he's gonna surprise his wife and that last year they only got hens so if they're roos he can use some and sell the rest. Duckies and geese are settling in and would you believe that one of the ducks looks like he has a little tuft on his/her head!! So I may have one of the crested cayugas. I knew they said they might come in your order. How cool is that. If it is crested it's a small crest for now but definately looks a little different from it's counterpart. So I am a happy camper now!!! And they are very calm now that the chicks are gone. They weren't trying to hurt each other but the geese are a bit clumsy and kept hitting a chick like a speed bump then would go tumbling to the end to land on top of more of the little guys. Now that its just the geese and ducks they are getting along quite well even laying down to snooze together!! SOOOOOO cute!!

Awww I loved when my geese were little. You have to watch the geese, they have a bad habit of piling on each other. I lost 2 from that. Good luck!!! Can't wait to see pictures when they get older.

ok here's some better pics. I still can't see them in my album after I upload them tech people ....a little help please??
They are probably Black Sex-Links. They are produced using a Barred Rock as the mother with a red roo as the father. Both sexes hatch out black, but the males have a white dot on their heads. Hatcheries send them for warmth and also use it as a good way to rid themselves of the male chicks (killing two birds with one stone). So, there is probably no chance for them to be hens .... Can't wait to see them!
