I didn't even notice them in the nest. Bill did. Thursday she made a nest in the barn right next to the sheep. I figured she was giving that spot a test drive, seeing how much she could harass the sheep if she decided to plunk herself down there for a month. When I didn't see her back there I figured she decided to move on to a different place. I had no idea, being as we've had geese a year now, that she would cover her eggs with straw as she laid them. There are 3 or 4 eggs in there covered up. Bill saw one on top this morning and then when I went to take a peek at them it was covered up. I am trying to decide if I should let her brood them if she decides to or not. If she does sit on them it will be hard to keep predators from pilfering the eggs and where she has her nest is squished right between a hay bale and a cattle pannel keeping the sheep in their stall. No room to put any makeshift containment of any kind around here. Hmmmmmm, think think think...

That is great! I think it is late enough in the year to let her brood, if she wants to!

I had geese sitting on eggs last year in our barn. They didn't let anything around. My female would sit, my gander would be on security duty and then they would switch off. I couldn't even get close to that part of the barn. They kept the dogs, chickens and cats well away from their nest. They are very protective over their nest and are not afraid to chase things off.

This morning while Alice was laying another egg Moe was standing right next to her standing guard. I put a board up yesterday so they can't see or goose the sheep through the cattle pannel, but all the sheep have to do when they go in their stall is breathe and the geese go nuts yelling at them. This should be interesting when Josie is sequestered in the stall to have her lambs soon. Moe has been quite nasty to just about every animal and person that crosses their path lately while Alice strolls around like a queen. Yup, making things interesting around here.
